You do not plan to visit the emergency department. It just happens, and usually when you least expect it. At Lake Wales Medical Center, we practice a philosophy of emergency care called ER+, which helps further our goal that you will receive quality medical care as quickly and professionally as possible.

The ER+ sign on our building means more than just a directional guide to show patients where they should come for emergency care. Our modern-day, 14-bed emergency department practices a program called ER+.

The ER+ promise means the lowest possible wait times, a thorough and proper examination, and a comprehensive treatment plan that is easy to understand. It represents a commitment to providing quality service by meeting the needs of our patients with kindness, respect, courtesy and friendliness.

Patients are the heart of our business, and the hospital experience should be one of care, concern and attention to emotional and physical needs. Patients can always expect to be treated with respect and addressed by name. Additionally, they can expect:

• Physicians who listen, examine you carefully and prescribe a treatment plan that you can understand.
• Nurses, registration and admitting staff who listen to you and your family, demonstrate care and concern about your pain and vulnerability, and make you as comfortable as possible.
• Treatment and relief should come within a reasonable period, especially if you are uncomfortable.
• An Emergency Department staff that regularly communicates with you and your family or friends in the waiting room regarding possible wait times. Your family or friends will be able to visit you in the Emergency Department at the appropriate time.
• An Emergency Department staff that knows and respects your rights as a patient, including your right to privacy.
• No language barriers to your care.

The ER+ Goal

The ER+ goal is for you to have access 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, to qualified physicians who take the time to listen to what you have to say. You will be greeted warmly by nurses who are truly compassionate and a registration staff that understands that people come before paperwork.

Our team of trained physicians, nurses and technicians are able to provide fast, quality care. They will listen to you, examine you carefully and prescribe a treatment plan that you will understand and believe in.

At our emergency department, ER+ represents a commitment to providing quality service by meeting the needs of our patients and their families with courtesy and respect. Your emergency experience at ER+ should be one of care, concern and attention to your emotional and physical needs. It is our goal not only to meet our patients’ needs, but to exceed the expectations of the people in the community we serve.
