Lake Wales, FL (Jan. 17, 2012) – Lake Wales Medical Center invites women of all ages to a free special event just for them, “Go Red, Think Pink,” as part of its celebration of National Heart Health Month in February.

“Heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined,” said Maryemma Bachelder, Director of Marketing at LWMC. “We believe it’s important for women of all ages to educate themselves about cardiac disease. Heart attack symptoms can be different in women than they are in men, and they certainly don’t always look like what we may see depicted on television. A heart attack can strike a seemingly healthy busy soccer mom just the same as it can a grandmother. We’ve created this event to be fun and educational, and potentially life-saving.”

“Go Red, Think Pink” will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. at High Point Church, 501 Burns Ave. in Lake Wales. The event will include a heart-healthy dinner, a presentation by Cardiologist Dr. Boris Nunez, heart-healthy cooking tips from registered dietitan, best-selling author and Food Network contributor Fabiola Gaines, and an interactive exercise time led by a personal trainer.

Free child care will be provided for children under the age of 4, and a special program for kids 4 and older will be led in the Fellowship Hall by Chase Woolman of the Tae Kwon Do School of Excellence.

“We wanted to make sure that child care issues weren’t a barrier to ladies attending this event, and it’s important for children’s health that they be active, too,” Bachelder said.

The first 100 attendees will receive a free heart-healthy cookbook. Several exhibitors will be on hand with information about cardiac health, life-saving CPR lessons, exercise and more. Door prizes also will be awarded. Attendees are encouraged to wear red for National Heart Health Month, or pink for Healthy Woman.
