LWMC Donates Nearly 760 Physicals to Student Athletes

Lake Wales, FL (September 17, 2012) - Lake Wales Medical Center provided more than $24,000 worth of free sports physicals and screenings to student athletes throughout the area this summer.

Between May and August, nearly 760 physicals were provided by LWMC physicians and staff to students at Lake Wales High School, Frostproof High School and Webber International University.

Three physicians and 11 employee volunteers from LWMC assisted with 140 student physicals at Lake Wales High School in May and June. In Frostproof, three LWMC physicians and eight staff members helped with 120 student physicals. In August, LWMC assisted with 270 student physicals at WIU over a four-day period. This included blood chemistry screenings and diagnostics for student athletes as needed, all provided at no cost to the students or the university.

In total, 216 hours were donated by LWMC staff members and physicians.

“We volunteer our services and time for the benefit of the students,” said Chris Jessee, who headed up the physicals and serves as Director of Rehabilitation at LWMC. “We’re just trying to do the right thing. It’s part of the hospital’s commitment to reaching out to our community and being a part of the community. This was all possible due to the kindness and dedication of our physicians and employees who volunteer their time”
